The average cost of having your tax completed and lodged is around $100. As this figure is a deduction on next years return you will receive part of that back in your refund, the amount depending on the level of your taxable income. Hence the cost is not huge.
The advantages of seeing a good accountant are –
- The legislation is now 8500 pages. Do you have the time or the interest in reading through this to make sure that you are declaring and claiming correctly.
- The tax pack is now 350 pages long. Again are you interested in going through that word for word after you have read the legislation.

Find an Accountant who will listen to you and is willing to recognise you as a person and respect you as a valued client, even if you are only worth a small annual fee to him/her.
Ask the person completing your tax return of their qualification and experience. You deserve to be serviced by someone who has worked hard for the opportunity to have you as a client.
Your Accountant should be someone who has good standing in the community and an impeccable reputation. Don’t settle for anything less. Ask questions and demand the answers.
